Alvaro Morata Injury Update

Morata's injury return date penciled in as Conte defends decision to start him vs City

Chelsea do not expect Alvaro Morata to take more than two weeks to recover from an injury he picked up in the 1-0 loss to Manchester City of Saturday.

The striker started against City despite the fact he played in the midweek Champions League game against Atletico Madrid and the previous match against Stoke.

Morata limped off in the City game and Antonio Conte admitted after the defeat that he took a risk starting him when he decided to rest Victor Moses. ‘To play three games in seven days is not simple, above all for our wings-backs,’ said the Chelsea boss.
Chelsea 2017/18 Fixtures
Crystal Palace (A) – Sat 14 Oct
Roma – Champions League (H) – Wed 18 Oct
Watford (H) – Mon 23 Oct Bournemouth (A) – Sat 28 Oct
Roma – Champions League (A) – Tue 31 Oct

‘Moses played two whole games against Stoke and Atletico. ‘Marcos Alonso played one-and-a-half games, because against Stoke I changed him. ‘Then you have to try to not put your players in difficulty and not to risk this type of player, because Moses for us is an important player, and to play three games in only seven days, it means that you risk.‘With Morata it was the same, but I made the decision to risk Morata in this game, because imagine if I decided to put Morata on the bench?’

The Daily Mail claim Chelsea are not concerned by the injury and think the international break will be long enough for the Spaniard to recover. Conte's post-match presser after Man City loss Play  Morata is not expected to play any part in Spain’s World Cup qualifiers, but the Spanish medical team will assess the 24-year-old for themselves.

Chelsea have two weeks to mull over the loss to City that leaves them six points adrift of the top of the table.

Conte won three Serie A titles in a row with Juventus, but so far the Blues are struggling to keep pace as defending champions this season. Morata’s form has played a huge part in Chelsea remaining in touch with six goals in seven Premier League appearances. Palace will be crucial game for Chelsea to bounce back and the medical team are confident Morata will be available for selection.
