Update on Marcus Rashford injury after Benfica victory

Jose Mourinho provides update on Marcus Rashford injury after Benfica victory

Jose Mourinho has offered an update on Marcus Rashford after the England international limped off during Manchester United’s Champions League win over Benfica.

Rashford scored the decisive goal for United with a long-range free-kick but was taken off ten minutes later with a leg injury.

Mourinho initially thought his player was struggling with cramp but confirmed after the game that Rashford was feeling pain in his knee. the Manchester United boss said: ‘It’s something in his knee, I thought it was cramp or fatigue, but no.

He felt something in his knee – hopefully it’s not [serious].’ United, who are currently second in the Premier League, controlled the Champions League fixture but were unable to make their dominance count with further goals.

Mourinho was nevertheless content with his team’s performance and was particularly pleased with their defensive stability.

‘We were in control, I don’t think David [De Gea] had one save, we were the team that were positive and in control – we were very solid,’ he added.  ‘Sometimes I feel that to be good defensively is a crime, it is not a crime! It’s one step to getting results and now we are basically one point away from qualifying.’

Rashford’s long-range strike caught out teenager goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who was seen apologising to the home supporters after the game for his blunder.
